Fremantle is best explored on two feet or two wheels. Knutsford is just a short stroll from local parks, art galleries, cafes, independent retail, markets and is in close proximity to schools and public transport.

Knutsford is designed to encourage a unique village atmosphere, with access paths and community open spaces connecting the golf course, Stevens Reserve, Monument Hill, and access to Freo's city centre.

Being just one city block back from High Street connects Knutsford residents quickly to Leach Highway east, the Town Centre west, Stirling Highway north and Carrington Street south.

Jury citation – What then emerged as a clear category winner was a highly unusual form of multiresidential housing, underpinned by factors so rarely sought in this category – namely context, community and belonging. The mid-density, low-rise model is commendable for the care and restraint exercised by the architects in what would typically be edge-to-edge, McMansion-style housing. The delicate site planning revolves around a series of dissecting laneways and courtyards. Instead of the typical street frontage of garage doors and crossovers, the laneways enable cars to be buried deep within the centre and therefore allow liveable areas and outdoor patios to engage directly with the street. Using a series of generously proportioned courtyards and terraces, the architect has ensured that each apartment/townhouse has equal access to northern light.

Architect/Interior Designer – Space Agency
Since establishing Space Agency in 1983, Michael Patroni has built a practice recognised around the world for its strategic and expressive approach to design. As a Fremantle local Michael has established a long relationship with the site, imagining what he would create around the corner from his home and office. As both a local and an architect, he is proud to contribute to his neighbourhood describing Knutsford as an evolution of Fremantle, inheriting its original DNA while responding to the contemporary context.

Landscape Architect – Place Laboratory
PLACE Laboratory aims to create thriving places, designed for people and communities. They believe that the public realm is the stage for life. PLACE Laboratory believes the role of the designer is to interpret the cultural underpinnings of a society. Spaces, which are engaging, meaningful, delightful, walkable, welcoming, attractive and vital.

Dedicated to delivering projects of real social and civic value, FJM Property understands the importance of intelligent design in the creation of vibrant and sustainable communities. As a testament to this, FJM has recently completed one of Australia's most significant heritage and civic regeneration projects – revitalising Perth's State Buildings into a vibrant hub featuring multiple award-winning food & beverage offerings, local artisan retailers and Australia's top hotel, COMO The Treasury.

FJM Property and its partners have collaborated with Space Agency for over 25 years on a number of award-winning projects. Recent projects include Alex Hotel, Bread in Common, Long Chim and Petition at the State Buildings.
